Why Henry Won’t Go To Barca

Is it the tactics of a potential opponent, or the real deal? Is Henry going to Barca? According to The Times he has all but packed his bags.

Well, if Henry was to go somewhere, I’m glad Barca is the target. But I highly doubt he is leaving, especially if Arsenal makes it through and qualifies for next years Champions League (and if recent form is any judge that is becoming much more likely).

Really, why would he want to go to Barca? To play third fiddle to Rhonaldinho and Eto’o? It’s like Michael Owen going to Real – a move I could never understand – to play runner up to Ronaldo and Raul.

As a manager, you need depth in your lineup to compete, especially if you are playing in Europe where the Champions League schedule has been known to kill shallow teams at this time of the year (see Liverpool). But as a player, does it make sense to have to fight with equally gifted strikers for a starting position? After all, every player wants to play.

Besides, there is plenty of excitement in the Arsenal camp these days. A very talented group of young players plus a new stadium. And Henry is set to play a key part in the plan. What more could a player want? What could he get from Barca that he can’t get from Arsenal?

Of course, should Arsenal fail to win the Champions League this year and fail to qualify for next seasons campaign, then we could have a very different scenario on our hands. But for now, I can’t see Henry leaving Arsenal anytime soon.
