World Cup – The Lighter Side

A roundup of a few lighter stories about the upcoming World Cup.

First, the great beer controversy. From the World Cup blog comes a story about a new website called BudOut, whose sole purpose is to get Budweiser removed as the official sponsor of the World Cup. No kidding. Fifa blew this endorsement deal. What, couldn’t find any beer in Germany? Yeah, the stuff is pretty tough to find over there.

The Brazilians (in their oh so Brazilian way) are planning on using sex as their motivational weapon of choice. As opposed to Scolari’s sex ban for the Brazilian national team at the 2002 World Cup, the 2006 squad can shag themselves silly under new coach Carlos Alberto Parreira. In the words of Parreira, “Sex? No, sex is always very good – always welcome.” THAT’S the Brazil we all know and love.

Meanwhile over in Portugal where Scolari currently resides, chicken soup is the secret weapon. Team cook Helio Loureiro, says there is nothing like the soup “to give strength and revive family memories”.

Hmmm, I kinda prefer the Brazilian way.
