Adu heads U.S. U-20 roster for qualifying
Real Salt Lake star Freddy Adu will captain the US U-20 team as they head into the U-20 World Cup qualification tournament next week.
Hard to believe that, at 17, Adu is already a veteran of 2, U-20 World Cups in 2003 (where the US made the Quarters) and 2005 (where they lost in the round of 16).
Other professionals to make the roster include Nathan Sturgis, Tim Ward, Josmer Altidore, Quavas Kirk and Danny Szetela of the MLS, Robbie Rogers (Heerenveen), Johann Smith (Bolton), and Preston Zimmerman (Hamburg).
First up for the USA in CONCACAF qualifying Group A will be Haiti on January 17, followed by ties with Guatemala on January 19th and host Panama on January 21.
The top two teams will qualify automatically for Canada, with two more teams coming from a second group featuring Mexico, Costa Rica, St. Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica. Group B will run from 21 to 25 February 2007 in Mexico.
As host nation, Canada has already qualified for the U-20 World Cup later this summer.
