Canadian Senior Men’s Soccer in Trouble?
Despite the news that Toronto FC has now sold more than 10,000 season tickets (2600 of which have been sold in the past week since that guy announced he was coming across the pond to play in our playground), you can’t help but agree with Sportsnet that Canada’s Senior Men’s program is up in the air.
The Senior Men’s National Team is heading to Florida on Monday for training with no head coach (thank you very much LA Galaxy), no CEO, and without a technical director. There are no international matches of any kind planned until June’s Gold Cup, and we currently sit at #82 in the FIFA World Rankings.
Is it any wonder that, given the option, our best and brightest leave for greener pastures? You can hardly blame them.
Still, while things look a bit of a mess right now, there is hope on the horizon. We have a talented crop of youth talent, some of whom are gaining major experience in Europe. Add in the massive exposure the game will get this summer when the U-20 World Cup hits our shores and you have a pretty bright looking future. Maybe 2010 isn’t such a long shot?

Every time I see David Edgar's name, I picture Edgar Davids.
I wish I could say that the U.S. lads are in a better situation. Sure we have a guy that we call the "head coach" but I'm sad to say that we're deluding ourselves by calling him that.
