Will ManU partner with Toronto FC?

With Arsenal’s announcement about a new business partnership with Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids, is ManU about to become the next EPL franchise to hook up with an MLS franchise? And, if so, could Toronto FC be the club?

I was reading SoccerCentral host Gerry Dobson’s blog earlier today and came across this interesting tidbit:

Now word has it that Manchester United is about to launch something extraordinary here in Canada. Stay tuned for word on that later this month. English clubs have become more astute about searching for talent around the globe. They recognize that there are a million registered players in Canada and they’re seriously looking at ways to tap into the market.

Could this mean some kind of partnership between Toronto FC and ManU?

Meanwhile, Gerry did have some encouraging things to say about the popularity of the game in Toronto.

Toronto FC coach Mo Johnston was a head table guest this year at the annual Siemens Conn Smythe Sports Celebrities Dinner & Auction, which is a big deal. Dobson observed:

“There were a number of soccer-related items as part of our silent auction and people were constantly wanting to talk soccer.”

“I’ve served on the dinner committee for more than 15 years and have never witnessed such a soccer buzz at this event. By the way, there are 30 corporate suites at BMO Field. They’re all gone. Sold out. Nothing left.”

More encouraging signs for the health of soccer in not only Toronto, but in Canada and North America as well.
