CBC announces 2007 U-20 World Cup broadcast schedule

The CBC has announced it’s TV and internet broadcast schedule for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which runs from June 30-July 22 in six Canadian cities — Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Victoria, and Burnaby, B.C.

The CBC will broadcast 20 matches live, including the semi-finals and finals, on it’s national network, and another 21 games on Country Canada, a digital channel that, as far as I can tell, has nothing whatsoever to do with soccer or even sports coverage. But it is coverage.

The U-20 coverage kicks off on opening day, June 30th, with coverage of both the Poland-Brazil match in Montreal, and what promises to be an early highlight game between Argentina and the Czech Republic in Ottawa.

Coverage of the final in Toronto on July 22nd starts at 2:30pm EST, with a repeat broadcast at 12am EST.

In all, the CBC will be devoting over 70 hours of coverage to the event (50 live) on the national signal, and another 150 on Country Canada.

What is very exciting is that All 52 matches will be offered live and on-demand on the CBC website at cbc.ca. And the CBC will produce the first Soccer Day in Canada on July 8 at 3 p.m., much like the super popular Hockey Day in Canada.

The full broadcast schedule on the CBC website.

Apparently, Telelatino will also provide multi language broadcasts of 21 games, with broadcasts in Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, but so far there is no information posted on their website.
