Canada’s Women’s World Cup draw and Christine Sinclair interview
The draw for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup was held over the weekend. Canada, currently ranked #10 in the world, was drawn into Group C with Norway, Australia and Ghana. Interesting side note is that current Canadian coach Evan Pellerud was born in Norway and coached the Norwegian team for seven-and-a-half years. He won silver at the 1991 World Cup, and then won the tournament with Norway 4 years later.
The Women’s World Cup will be held Sept. 10-30 in China.
CBC Radio’s Inside Track has an interview with Christine Sinclair, the top female soccer player in Canada. In the interview, Sinclair talks about how the team prepares for the World Cup, her life in Portland (and the soccer culture at the University of Portland), and moving from student to being a fulltime athlete.
