The Gold Cup was fun while it lasted

It was a heartbreaking way to end a fantastic run by Canada at the Gold Cup. Robbed of the possibility of going to extra time by an unfortunate offside call by an officiating team that, up until the final moments of the game, had been doing a pretty good job in a chippy match.

However, rather than dwell on the poor call, let’s end our Gold Cup run on a high note. This has been the best string of games a Canadian Mens National Team has put together in a long time. And their run at the GC has me stoked about WC qualifying next year. Once Dale Mitchell gets in place after the U20 World Cup (with Stephen Hart staying on as his assistant), we’ll have all the pieces in place for one of our strongest runs at the World Cup finals in many years.

Good work, boys. You guys did a heck of a job and provided me with more than a few hours of entertainment over the past few weeks. But more importantly you’ve done something else – you’ve made me a fan. And you’ve got me excited about the future.
