U-20 World Cup: Final rosters set, Burnaby spruces up Swangard Stadium, and CBC Newsworld kicks off Soccer Docs
All 24 teams taking part in the U-20 World Cup finalized their rosters over the weekend. A complete list of all players has been posted at FIFA.com.
Work is wrapping up on Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, British Columbia, home to Group E (Zambia, Spain, Uruguay and Jordan). Zambia arrived Wednesday without money for food and accommodation. Organizers aren’t responsible for those things until Tuesday. Spain is expected today with Uruguay and Jordan, playing in their first U-20 World Cup, coming tomorrow.
Meanwhile, CBC’s coverage of the FIFA U-20 World Cup gets underway Thursday, June 28 at 9:30 p.m. local with the Preview 2007: FIFA U-20 World Cup show. Live coverage of the first game of the tournament is on Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m. ET, featuring four-time FIFA U-20 World Cup-winners Brazil taking on Poland at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.
Staying with the CBC, Newsworld kicked off a soccer doc series last night on The Passionate Eye, featuring the fantastic documentary called The Other Final. Filmed in 2002 during the World Cup, The Other Final documents a game between the 2 lowest ranked soccer countries in the world; Bhutan and Montserrat. A must see for soccer fans.
Other soccer docs airing in the CBC Newsworld series are MARADONA: THE GOLDEN KID tonight at 10pm (ET/PT) and repeating July 1, 2007 at 10pm ET/PT, and GAME OF THEIR LIVES on Monday July 2, 2007 at 10pm ET/PT.
