Steve Nash – new Spurs owner?

Phoenix Suns guard (and local Victoria lad) Steve Nash is all about soccer. In August 2006, Nash trained with Red Bull New York of Major League Soccer as he is friends with Red Bull coach Bruce Arena. His brother Martin plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps and has been capped many times for Canada (it was actually quite embarrassing earlier this year at the Gold Cup to hear the commentators continuously refer to Martin as “the brother of Steve Nash”. Like the guys accomplishments can’t stand on his own?) And there was a time in Steve’s sports career when he had to choose between professional basketball or professional soccer

Spurs are his team, and there is a report this week that says Steve would like to invest in the team after he calls it quits on the court. Of course, wanting to own a team and actually owning the team are 2 different things, as Nash readily admits.

“Of course I would love to own Spurs, but I have not got a spare 300 million,” he said. “I am a lifelong fan of the club. I am massively proud to be a fan. One day, when my career has finished, I would love to be involved with the club. I would love to be a part of a club like that.”

Of course Steve, the team might become way more affordable if they continue playing the way they have been this season. I can only assume Championship teams come much cheaper than Premier League teams.

A new investor in Tottenham would be great to actually aid the team’s progress.
Manager’s have already been given the freedom to go out and spend the Chairman’s money but to any new fresh financial input leads to fresh ideas and generally more freedom for the coach to sign the player’s he decides.
With Juande Ramos taking over at the Lane recently, he will, without doubt have fresh ideas and names of potential new signings already in-place.
If the deal goes through it could be the dawning of a new era for Tottenham.
