Canada’s first hurdle for 2010 qualifying – St. Vincent and The Grenadines

FIFA held the preliminary draw for the 2010 World Cup this past weekend, and Canada’s first CONCACAF hurdle in qualifying for 2010 is now known. Canada (FIFA rank: 54 overall, 4th in CONCACAF) will be facing the Caribbean nation of St. Vincent/Grenadines (FIFA rank: 77 overall, 9th in CONCACAF)) in a 2 leg aggregate coming up in June, 2008.

If all goes according to plan (and these things rarely do, so expect some changes here), that means we will most likely be facing Mexico, Honduras and Jamaica in group play for stage 3. The CSA is setting a goal for 2008 to advance through stages 2 and 3 and qualify for the CONCACAF Super 6 tournament in 2009.

The full list of preliminary World Cup draws for CONCACAF is available on the FIFA site.
