Dale Mitchell interview and Loud ‘n Proud

Both Sportsnet and The Score have some fine Canadiana soccer related content on their site this week. First off, check out Gerry Dobson’s blog posting about being Loud n’ Proud. I, for one, had no idea that in the 2000 WC qualifying run Canada were such gracious hosts. I mean, yes, we don’t have to yell and scream all night outside the windows of our competitors hotel rooms, but certainly we can try to be a bit less accommodating to their fans. Gerry’s column this week is a good one and a fine primer to get us in the 2010 WC qualifying spirit.

Meanwhile, The Score has a nice interview with Dale Mitchell . First, good on Dale for not rising to the baited bad ref’ing question. Geez, do we have to start this campaign already bitching about referee’s? Anyway, nice to hear Dale talking about discipline as I think that is one area where we need to work on – controlling our emotions when calls don’t go our way. because if we can’t handle diving against a team like Honduras we’re certainly going to be in for a shock when we come up against Italy :)

So, some good soccer stuff from Canada’s sports networks. Although what gives Sportsnet? Boo to you for not including Dwayne DeRosario in your list of nominees for 2007 Sportsnet Canadian Athlete of the Year. Leading his team to 2 straight MLS titles and sparking Canada’s run at the Gold Cup should at least qualify him for a nomination.
