Dale Mitchell at the CSA Annual General Meeting (video)

I give the CSA a lot of guff about their website. It seems like the last place to find up to date information about the Canadian Men’s National Team is the CSA website. Add to that the lack of community building features, video highlights or simple to find stats and you get a bit of a waste of time.

However, I have to give them kudos for streaming the video of their press conference earlier today from the CSA AGM in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Canadian MNT Head Coach Dale Mitchell was one of the speakers at the press conference. You can see his comments in the video archive. He begins his comments at around 11:50 into the conference. In his comments, he reminisces a bit about the one and only time Canada qualified for a World Cup final (1986 in Mexico), how CONCACAF has changed, and about what it is like to play away games against teams in Central America and the Caribbean (in a word – hard).

He also mentioned that we will likely see Brazil send out their A squad on May 31 against Canada since Brazil has upcoming qualification games against the likes of Argentina on the horizon.

Finally, he emphasized the importance of fan support at home. So, I’ll be heading to Seattle and treating Seattle like home turf for the Canada – Brazil game on May 31. I wish I could be in Montreal for the St. Vincent qualification game in June, but will have to leave it to the die hards in Eastern Canada to rattle the stands and show their support for the team.

where did this take place?

St. John Newfoundland at the annual general meeting of the Canadian Soccer Association.

I agree with you. For a fan in Canada to buy a shirt of any type to support the team, men or women, you’re out of luck. This might be a small piece of the puzzle but selling a few things like jerseys, t-shirts, hats, car flags, and other items the supporter will spend money on, raises money to the association. The U.S. based soccer365Inc sells soccer stuff on a number of soccer websites. Lots of U.S. stuff available, English, Mexican, Italian, etc. In most cases there is nothing available reflecting Canadian soccer. Now the TFC, Whitecaps and Impact all have a decent selection on their sites, and there must be a dozen companies out there that can do a great job making and or marketing this stuff. At the FIFA U-20 championships in Victoria I picked up a couple of over-priced t-shirts to support the country. They’re a little worn out now, and I’ll be looking for some to replace so where do I go? There are lots of fans across this country who I think would like to support the team more. Not everyone lives in a city with a pro team, or where Canada would come and play, so where I am I supposed to buy this stuff? I hope to be heading down to Seattle to watch Canada Brazil and hopefully can pick some up down there, but it would be so much easier off a website or in a store
Go Canada!
