Kaka, Alex out, Adriano in and some choice quotes from DeRo ahead of Canada Brazil Friendly

Lots of stuff to report ahead of next weeks friendly between Canada and Brazil in Seattle.

First off, reigning FIFA World Player of the Year Kaka underwent surgery on his knee in Rio today and is officially a scratch for next weekend’s friendly against Canada in Seattle.

Also out of the lineup due to injury is Chelsea defender Alex. He will be replaced by Henrique.

One final note from the Brazil camp. The rumor that Adriano would be called up became official today. With Sau Paulo’s elimination from the Libertadores Cup by Fluminense on Wednesday, the striker on loan from Inter Milan will fly up to Seattle to join the team.

Meanwhile, over on the Canuck side of life, Dwayne DeRosario is not exactly trash talking, but he certainly is getting his point across, which is you gotta give Brazil respect, but too much and they will stomp all over you. Some choice DeRo quotes from an interview he did with the Winnipeg Free Press:

“If you are in awe, you are in a little bit of trouble,” De Rosario said during a conference call Friday. “Hopefully we go out there and not be in too much awe and watch them play around us (because) the next thing you know we are in awe and five goals in the back of the net.”

“You play against teams like Brazil and you will only become better in terms of knowing how players at that high level operate on the field. This a great preparation for us all around.

“I believe in our team. I believe we have a team that can open some eyes against a powerhouse like Brazil.”

“All the players know this is going to be a battle,” said De Rosario. “I think Brazil is looking to go out there and spank a team.

“As a professional athlete we all know nothing is going to be friendly about the game until afterwards. On the field it is business. We want to represent Canada well, they want to represent Brazil well.”

8 days and counting until we fly the maple leaf over Seattle.
