Sportsnet – What, no Mexico? Are you serious?
Just when you think TV coverage might be geting a bit better for soccer in this country comes the shocker that Sportsnet may not be carrying the Mexico-Canada WCQ on Wednesday from Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiappa. The V’s boards are lighting up with responses from Sportsent to their emails reagrding coverage. Sportsnet has been vague at best about their coverage plans. Here are some responses being received by the Voyageur’s:
From: “Sportsnet Audience Feedback” <Feedback@sportsnet.rogers.com>Thanks for your recent email. We certainly appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, at this time the broadcast of Canada v. Mexico is yet to be determined. Regardless, I have forwarded your comments to our programming department. Audience Relations

For crips sakes Sportnset. It’s a FRIGGIN WORLD CUP QUALIFIER AGAINST MEXICO!!!!!!!! Are you serious that you cannot secure the rights to broadcast this game? What kind of bush league organization is this? I mean, this is not like the game is coming out of the blue. It’s been known for months, so don’t tell me you haven’t had time to secure the rights.
And what about Gerry Dobson’s post from July 18th saying we’ll have all the matches on Sportsnet by the way? Was that Dobson speaking without knowing – a trait I generally don’t associate with Dobson. Usually when he says something, it’s pretty well true. So I am dissapointed to hear that the game will not be shown on Sportsnet – or even live streamed.
Meanwhile, I’ve been emailing a friend of mine who just returned from Chiapas about the venue and here is what he had to say. Looks like the altitude might pose a bit of a problem.
That is fairly high altitude there, about 1000-1200 meters if I have it straight. A little higher up in San cristobal 1600 m I found myself getting a little short of breathe from time to time. IT will be interesting to see how the Canadians fare.
I’ll want to check out that game.
So do all of us, my friend. So do all of us.
