Footie Fool on Twitter: Julian De Guzman leaning towards staying in Spain http://bit.ly/fFylw 2 hrs ago

Plumb tuckered trying to keep up…

I can’t keep up. Seems like there is a whack of Canuck soccer news this week. Fortunatly I have my handy, dandy Google Reader and the ever expanding Canadian soccer blogging community to keep me up to date.

New reads for me are the extremely prolific 24th Minute, who seems to crank out 6 posts while I am taking a whiz. Listen for blog author Duane Rollins on the It’s Called Football podcast I was talking about last week. Duane had an interesting post yesterday about Julian de Guzman leaving Deportivo, with offers coming in from Germany, Spain, England and Russia.

Meanwhile Sam over at another new read the Canadian Stretford End agrees with me that this week has been crazy. So, let’s recap…

  1. My choice for Player of the Year, Tomasz Radzinski, was choosen International Player of the Year by The Voyageurs. Classy move, V’s! Be sure to check out how to win your own 2 inch Radz bobblehead from OOT.
  2. Meanwhile, another worthy player, Julian de Guzman won the CSA Player of the Year award.
  3. While still on JDG, there is the juicy quote from him on The Stretford End blog that “The CSA, the OSA and the rest of the associations are the root of our
problem and it will only become a cancer to the program across the
nation.” I’ll bet the CSA wasn’t on his Christmas card list this year.
  4. From squizz comes the absolutely fabulous news (insert dripping sarcasm here) that Dale Mitchell ain’t going nowhere and will be in charge for the Gold Cup. With the amount of goodwill between Mitchell and the players I am thinking we may end up going to the Gold Cup with a bunch of guys from the third division of my local beer league.
  5. It’s transfer season in Europe and Lars Hirschfeld is still stuck in Romanian hell. But CFR Cluj has a new coach (Czech international Ales Jindra) and Lars is expecting to get a shot, according to this lovely translated article from Google Translate. Here’s hoping.
