Footie Fool on Twitter: Well, at least there will be one Canadian seeing action in South Africa this summer http://bit.ly/arVWif 2 days ago

Atiba Hutchinson seems content in Denmark – for now

A couple of Atiba Hutchinson references have popped up in the past couple of days, albeit they are the type of Google Translate type articles that have been known to whip Canadian players into a tizzy. And, this being the European silly season, you can’t read too much into speculation and idle name tossing. But it is still interesting to see Canadians being mentioned in the transfer window fray as potential improvements to European teams.

Such is the case with this article from a Swedish sports site that has the writer whistfully hoping (Swedish | English) for an attacking midfielder in the Atiba Hutchinson vein for Malmo FF to replace Ola Toivonen, who has just signed on for a new gig at PSV.

Who replaces Toivonen? Nannskog, Prica, Ailton, Alvaro, Razak, Ijeh, Henke…? Or maybe an offensive MIDFIELD as Atiba Hutchinson? It is clear that MFF intends to shop big time and it gives colleagues the opportunity to dunk on badly with speculation. Should be fun to follow.

A bit more solid piece of Hutch news comes from Ekstra Bladet who have an interview (Danish link / English link) with the FCK midfielder. At first, I misread the story and thought that the ManU reference was linking Manu with Hutch (ohhh, that would be juicy, eh?). But as I dug a bit deeper I realized the ManU reference in the article refered to a new player FCK has acquired, Martin Vingaard from Danish side Esbjerg. Apparently, Vingaard is the ManU target (or was, I kinda got lost in tanslation).

Anyway, what is interesting about the aquisition of Vingaard is that, apparently, he and Hutch are similar players and play on the same side, which prompted some speculation that Hutch was on the market.

From Google translate:

Purchase of league landsholdsspiller Martin Vingaard in Esbjerg set up the rumors that Manchester United are preparing a sale of its Canadian landsholdsspiller. But the dream of an international move is currently placed on standby.

And later on:

Now the ‘Hutch’, which he called the club, fight with Martin Vingaard on the site, a competition Canadians look forward to.

“It is entirely up to the coach who to play. But it will be good to get as good a player to the club, it makes the team stronger, and all players are going to fight for their place on the team.”

Hutch says that he expects to stay at FCK for the remainder of the season, but it will be interesting to watch and see how things shake down in the coming months. Whether the aquisition of Vingaard is a depth move for FCK, or a signal that Hutch may be on his way out of FCK will be something I’ll be watching for.

Hutch also says he is looking forward to FCK’s February 19th tangle with Man City in the UEFA Cup.

We have some exciting UEFA Cup matches against Manchester City to look forward. It will be a fantastic experience for everyone in the club to meet such a big club
at home or abroad.

Man, how did Canuck soccer fans survive before teh interwebs and Google Translate?
