Iain Hume returns to action
Iain Hume took to the pitch for the first time since his horrific head injury in November. The Canadian striker made a brief cameo appearance for his former English club Tranmere Rovers at a testimonial game. On the Barnsley website, Hume says:
“I was a little disappointed that it was at Tranmere and not in front of Barnsley supporters because I owe this club so much. I owe a lot of people at Barnsley so much and I am confident that they will see a different player with a point to prove next season”.
Hume’s appearance in this game has to be considered a bit of an Eduardo-like recovery, considering that, immediately after the November crack to the skull he received from Sheffield United’s Chris Morgan, the prognosis was that his fractured skull might have been career ending.
So, sure it was a brief appearance in a testimonial game – a long way from anything competitive. But still, the Canuck footie fan this makes me wonder, is July too soon for Hume to play in a high level competitive competition like, say, I dunno, the Gold Cup?
