Jason de Vos is required reading for Canadian soccer fans

Former Canadian defender turned CBC footie commentator Jason de Vos is tackling some of the fundamental problems of Canadian soccer on his CBC blog.

His latest series of posts began with a post on April 8th called Offside: Where do we start in trying to fix Canadian soccer?. Big question and it’s nice to have someone with the stature and voice of de Vos weigh in on the topic.

But it’s not just Jason’s voice. There are close to 200 comments on the post. Obviously, he has struck a nerve and in the second post of the series published yesterday, he responds to some of the comments. A nice dialogue is opening up, and I suspect there are more than a few ears in positions of power listening in on the conversation.

In yesterday’s post, de Vos also outlines where he is going in the next month with the series.

April 27 – Player Development
May 4 – Coaching the Coaches
May 11 – Training and Competition
May 18 – Who’s in Charge?
May 25 – Getting to the World Cup

Bring it on, Jason. I can’t wait to hear what you’ve got to add to the mix. If it is half as constructive as the contributions you’ve made to the Canadian defence in the past then it will be a most worthwhile addition to the conversation.
