Hirschfeld to FC Energie Cottbus

Lars Hirschfeld
Another Canadian makes the move to Germany. Canuck keeper Lars Hirschfeld is (finally) on the move (English translation). After enduring a 2 seasons spell at CFR Cluj in Romania where he played third fiddle and saw virtually no first team action, Hirschfeld is moving back to German side FC Energie Cottbus. This is his second spell with the team, spending some time in the late 90′s with the club before his move to Tottenham.
Energie were relegated from the Bundesliga last season and will be playing in 2nd Bundesliga next year. The good news for Lars is that rumour has current starter Gerhard Tremmel making a move to the EPL, either to Villa or Blackburn, which could free up the starting spot for Hirschfeld.
Bundesliga 2 begins pre season during the Gold Cup so I can forgive Hirschfeld for not making the trip to play for Canada in the Gold Cup. Playing week in week out will pay off huge dividends for Canada come the next WCQ cycle.
The interview below is in German. Man, gotta love the shirt!
