Canadian international striker Iain Hume is is expected to play in a pre-season friendly for his club Barnsley tonight against non-league outfit Buxton.

Except for a brief run out in a testimonial game in April, this would see Hume returning to the lineup for the first time in a competitive match since November 8th, 2008. Amazing when you consider the initial prognosis from his horrific head injury was that the 25 year old might never play again.

Says Hume of his return:

“It has been heart-breaking to miss so much football, but hopefully I am about to take a big step in the right direction.”

It’ll be great to see Hume back and, hopefully, still full of the same piss and vinegar that makes him such a wonderfully tenacious pitbull for both club and country.
