A Sportnset story today about the injury situation among MNT players ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final Gold Cup draw against Honduras has me feeling a bit on edge.
“Yes we do (have a lot of injuries),” (Stephen) Hart told Sportsnet.ca on Tuesday. “I am going to have to wait on the medical staff. We have quite a few injuries but the good sign is that they all participated in some light training on Monday.
Now, Dejan Jakovic was the only offical player to sit out the Costa Rica game due to injury, but this is the first indication that there may have also been problems with some of the other players. The assumption was that Julian De Guzman, Paul Stalteri and Mike Klukowski all sat out because of yellow cards which, I am sure, had something to do with it. But Hart’s comments today raises the possibility that one (or all) three of these key players may be carrying knocks.
The good news is there is a long layoff before Saturday’s quarter final game against Honduras so the Canucks will have plenty of time to rest smaller injuries. But whether there is something more serious going on with one (or more) key players is hard to know right now. Hart seems to be remaining pretty tight lipped.
