It’s all over (but the firing)
The dream for South Africa 2010 is officially over, with Canada dropping a 3-0 decision to Jamaica last night. The CSA blow by blow details are here.
The only small detail left is for Dale Mitchell to be replaced. Please, CSA, instill some confidence in us lowly fans - replace the coach.
Even you have to realize [...]
On Mexico, Steve Nash and the CSA
Great. Just when I spew on Dale Mitchell, up Canada pops with a 2-2 draw with Mexico and, from all accounts I have read so far, a pretty decent outing (between my night job and my day job, I have yet to watch the tilt.) A decent outing without Atiba Hutchinson, Dwayne DeRosario, Julian De [...]
Insult to injury - Mitchell stays
I have always said that Dale Mitchell should be given the full qualification cycle. I think that if we want to attract top people, we have to at least give them some assurance that they will have some time to prove or fail themselves.
Dale Mitchell belongs in the fail category.
Qualification has been an abject failure. [...]
Brennan sticks it to CSA & Dale Mitchell
Looks like there is fire underneath the Jim Brennan smoke I posted about a few days ago. The Toronto FC defender has publicly spoken out against both Dale Mitchell and the CSA. He hasn’t retired from the MNT, but emphatically states that he won’t be suiting up as long as Dale Mitchell is at the [...]
DeRo speaks
Quickly wanted to poiint you to a couple of interesting Canadian soccer tidbits I’ve come across in the past few days.
First, there is an interview with Dwayne DeRosario in the National Post where he has some unkind words about, surprise surprise, the CSA. Here’s a sample:
They are more concerned about trying to make money [...]
Is the CSA is driving away our best and brightest?
Owen Hargreaves. Jonathan de Guzman. Just two international players who could have donned Canadian colours but choose, for one reason or another, not to. Perhaps that reason is the Canadian Soccer Association.
I’ve always been bitter about Hargreaves choosing to play for England over Canada. But a new interview with Hargreaves in Soccer360 is shedding some [...]
Canada 1 Martinique 0
Dwayne DeRosario scored 25 minutes in to give Canada a 1-0 win over Martinique yesterday. There is the official CSA version of the game, and then there is a version of the game given to us by Sean Keay at The Score. Very funny stuff. I would love to see the disallowed throw in goal [...]
Dwayne De Rosario squeezes out Julian de Guzman for 2007 Canadian Player of the Year
It was a close one, but Dwayne De Rosario (Houston Dynamo MLS) has squeezed out Julian de Guzman (Deportivo de La Coruña La Liga) and been named by the CSA as the men’s 2007 Adidas Canadian Players of the Year for the third straight year.
I would have been happy with either of them winning. But [...]
